A blind 20-year-old wowed crowds at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The young woman, born with cytomegalovirus and later diagnosed with blindness and mild cerebral palsy, is bringing her beautiful talent to the world by delivering stirring musical performances. According to her website, Marlana VanHoose experienced recovery from her virus – which was expected to take her life by the age of two – and has been singing and playing the piano since she was a tiny child. Now, at just 20 years old, the Kentucky native is a veteran performer at events across the country, including NBA, NCAA, and NASCAR events.
Marlana was invited to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Republican National Convention last week in Cleveland, and her flawless, heartfelt delivery visibly moved the audience. A firm Christian believer, the young woman says she doesn’t mind being blind, because she knows that when she enters the gates of heaven, “Jesus will be the first face she’ll see.”
