Stay safe, Texas

Friday night, Hurricane Harvey slammed the southeast Texas Gulf coast.  Harvey made landfall as a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 130 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.  Harvey continues to hammer southeast Texas, putting countless Texans in danger.

If you are in Harvey’s path, find local hotlines, shelter locations, and other important information below.  If you are looking to provide help, find resources to do so below.

Texans have shown an unbreakable spirit and neighborly cooperation as rescue efforts have continued.  Our prayers are with all involved.

IF YOUR HOME IS FLOODING:

Shut off power via breaker box. Elevate yourself above the water if possible and use a piece of wood to shut it off – be extremely cautious and use a 2×4 to hit the breaker. DO NOT go into the attic if water is rising in your home unless you have an axe to break through the roof, get onto your roof instead!

IN CASE OF TORNADO:

Find an interior room of your house with no windows.
