Pro-Life Legislators take another Stand for Life; sign brief to Fifth Circuit Court

Pro-Life Legislators take another Stand for Life; sign brief to Fifth Circuit Court

Yesterday, in a filing with the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Texas Right to Life joined Texas Eagle Forum, our Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, forty-seven State Representatives, and eleven State Senators, including authors Representative Jodie Laubenberg and Senator Glenn Hegar, to file an amicus brief in support of Texas’ legal defense of the newly enacted House Bill 2.

Pro-Life elected officials and leaders jointly filed the amicus brief substantiating the argument that House Bill 2 does not constitute an undue burden on women seeking an abortion — this is in spite of Planned Parenthood's various (and contradictory) attempts to argue so.

The brief challenges the notion that Planned Parenthood has the grounds to represent Texan women who may be their future clients.

From the day this lawsuit was filed, abortionists have attempted to campaign on the premise of caring about the medical needs of women.  Yet, unyieldingly, these same abortionists have asserted strategies to protect their bottom line, not the health and safety of Texas women.  Evidenced by the selective targeting of only specific portions of the bill, the protection of the abortionist’s financial gains continues to garner more importance than the protections initiated in the implementation of HB2's prudent and rational medical standards.

In direct contrast to the predatory abortion industry’s financial focus, the fifty-eight Pro-Life Legislators joined the Court filing to resound their support for HB's provisions to protect the lives and safety of Texas women.

If your legislator jointly filed the brief, please take a minute to thank him or her for taking the initiative to speak up in the courthouse, after having fought hard in the 83rd Legislative Session to pass this Pro-Life, pro-woman House bill.
