During his nomination speech in last night’s 2020 Republican National Convention, President Trump again showed himself to be the most Pro-Life President America has ever had, declaring:
“Joe Biden claims he has empathy for the vulnerable, yet the party he leads supports the extreme late-term abortion of defenseless babies, right up until the moment of birth. Democrat leaders talk about moral decency, but they have no problem with stopping a baby’s beating heart in the ninth month of pregnancy. Democrat politicians refuse to protect innocent life, and then they lecture us about morality and saving America’s soul. Tonight, we proudly declare that all children, born and unborn, have a God-given right to life.”
This is significant for two reasons. First, one would be hard-pressed to find such bold language in a speech by any other Republican Presidential Nominee in recent history. Until the age of Trump, the Republican establishment and their chosen nominees would consider such language as too radical, especially leading into a general election. However, the Pro-Life message was featured very prominently in this convention. As Mark Hemingway, senior writer for RealClearInvestigations, noted on Twitter:
The second reason is that the Biden-Harris ticket is explicitly the most pro-abortion presidential ticket in American history. Not only has the supposed “Catholic” Joe Biden shifted significantly to the left over the years in his stance on abortion (now in open rebellion against church teaching on the issue) but Kamala Harris quickly distinguished herself as a radical for abortion during her first term in the Senate and as attorney general of California. She even voted in favor of killing children who survive abortions when she opposed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act just this year.
President Trump and Vice President Pence consistently defended preborn children and earned the trust of Pro-Life voters.
