Over the summer, Leana Wen was fired as president of Planned Parenthood, after less than a year on the job. There was no doubt that Wen was thoroughly anti-Life, but for Planned Parenthood, that was not enough. Because Wen wanted to make America’s biggest abortion business into a legitimate health resource that also committed abortions, the board of Planned Parenthood abruptly fired her.
Since then, the drama has continued. In a letter to the board of Planned Parenthood that was leaked to the New York Times, Wen claimed the abortion business was trying to “buy [her]silence” by refusing her severance pay as “ransom” until she agreed to sign a confidentiality agreement.
In response to the story, Wen tweeted that she was “disappointed” the letter was leaked and added, “There should be no dispute regarding the terms of my employment contract. I will not be forced to sign a gag clause and compromise my integrity.”
In a statement, Wen wrote that she thought signing a confidentiality agreement with America’s biggest abortion business would compromise her integrity as a public health advocate. Prior to taking the helm of America’s abortion corporation, Wen served as the Baltimore health commissioner.
In her letter to the Planned Parenthood board, Wen criticized a “vocal minority” at the organization that took “a stridently political, abortion-first philosophy.” Her comment echoes the “philosophical differences” she cited in her sudden departure from the abortion organization over the summer. Her perspective also confirms that the highest levels of Planned Parenthood are committed to abortion before anything else.
This extremism was already clear, but Wen’s comments confirm how radical Planned Parenthood is, and how far they will go to defend killing innocent human lives in the womb. The ongoing dispute also shows how misguided Wen was in accepting a position at the head of a business that prizes abortion before all else. While Wen seemed to think she could roll out vaccinations and other health services at Planned Parenthood locations across the country, Pro-Lifers who had been paying attention knew that there was no chance of Planned Parenthood abortion mills becoming legitimate health clinics.
Planned Parenthood is a business that admitting to ending the lives of 332,757 preborn babies. Abortion is not an accidental offshoot of an altruistic health care organization: abortion is the lucrative backbone of a business that kills more than any other corporation in our nation. Cecile Richards, the highly political president of Planned Parenthood before Wen’s brief tenure, earned nearly $1 million dollars in her final year. Over the course of Richards’ time running the “Fandango” of abortions, health services declined, but abortions remained steady.
Confirming the “stridently political, abortion-first philosophy” Wen pointed out, the abortion business voluntarily removed Planned Parenthood from the from the federally-funded Title X Program, which provides family planning services to low-income individuals. Under the new Pro-Life rule from the Trump administration, Planned Parenthood would have to physically and financial separate family planning services for low income families from the abortion business. Instead of complying with the reasonable request that Pro-Life taxpayers not be forced to fund an abortion business with fungible dollars, Planned Parenthood chose to continue to commit abortions unfettered. In mid-September, Wen announced that she will be a visiting professor at George Washington University. She also announced that she is pregnant again after suffering a miscarriage earlier this year and is due in March.
