Philadelphia Abortionist Charged with Eight Counts of Murder

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist from Philadelphia, has been charged with eight counts of murder, including the death of one female patient and seven viable newborns. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office initiated the investigation of Gosnell’s clinic because he was suspected of illegally prescribing narcotics, but they discovered far more heinous crimes in the shockingly unsanitary facility.

During the illegal prescription investigation, authorities became suspicious when two women died from complications at Gosnell’s clinic.  Gosnell was served with search warrants for both his home and his clinic.  District Attorney Seth Williams said that at the clinic, officials found
“. . .jars packed with severed baby feet lining the shelves, bags and bottles of aborted fetuses scattered throughout the office, blood stained furniture and floors, and unlicensed employees who regularly injected sedatives into women having illegal, late-term abortions.”

As the investigation continued, the findings only became more troubling.  Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore reported to the Associated Press (AP) that Gosnell had “started, but did not finish, a residency in obstetrics-gynecology.  He does not know how to do an abortion.  He is not board certified.”  Apparently, Gosnell saw a financial opportunity in performing illegal, late-term abortions that are largely unavailable because they are against the law.  His lack of professional training and dubious ethics proved deadly.

Gosnell is being charged with eight counts of murder.  According the AP, Gosnell was, “charged with third degree murder for the death of 41-year old Karnamaya Monger who allegedly overdosed on anesthetics prescribed by Gosnell.  Gosnell wasn’t at the clinic at the time, but directed his staff to administer the drug to keep the woman, a healthy 41-year old, sedated until he arrived.”

District Attorney Williams also charged Gosnell with seven counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of seven infants.  Williams reported that Gosnell, “. . .induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, and eighth month of pregnancy,” and then killed the babies by “cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cords.”

Williams is aware that abortion is a highly divisive issue, but has correctly stated, “my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law. A doctor who cuts into the necks severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is committing murder under the law.”

Pro-lifers must tell the story of Gosnell’s heinous and illegal activities so that they are aware of what is truly at stake in the Pro-Life movement, and to prevent any such future atrocities.  For more information on this story visit:  http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Jan2011/nv011911.html
