Speaking to CNN on Sunday, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee condemned Friday’s Colorado Springs shooting in a busy shopping center. “What he did is domestic terrorism,” said Huckabee, calling the rampage “absolutely abominable.” The accused shooter, North Carolina native Robert Lewis Dear, killed three – including a police officer who responded to the scene – and injured nine in the hours-long shooting spree.
Huckabee underscored that the attack could not, by definition, be motivated by Pro-Life sentiment, because Pro-Lifers hold that “every life truly does have worth and value.” Huckabee said: “I don’t know of anybody who will say anything other than outright condemnation for this horrible, horrible, despicable act of murder.” He condemned the act in no uncertain terms, saying, “It was mass murder. It was absolutely unfathomable.”
Huckabee noted that the same senseless violence occurs unchallenged within Planned Parenthood’s walls on a massive scale: “there's no excuse for killing other people, whether it's happening inside the Planned Parenthood headquarters, inside their clinics where many millions of babies die, or whether it's people attacking Planned Parenthood.”
Although at this point no evidence indicates that Dear was specifically targeting Planned Parenthood, the abortion giant has blamed Pro-Lifers for “creating the environment” that led to the attack. When asked whether he believes that videos from the Center for Medical Progress exposing the illegal sale of baby body parts have “created an environment” that is prompting violence, Huckabee challenged the CNN host to name one Pro-Life leader who has advocated violence towards Planned Parenthood. He said:
I don’t know of anyone who has suggested violence toward Planned Parenthood personnel or some act of violence towards their clinics. I’ve not heard that – not from one single pro-life person. I’ve heard universal condemnation, whether it’s from the Center for Medical Progress that put out the videos; whether it’s from pro-life advocates – and I consider myself one of them – I know of nobody who has ever suggested that Planned Parenthood be the target of some type of violent attack. So I think that’s a little bit disingenuous on the part of Planned Parenthood to blame people who have a strong philosophical disagreement with the dismembering of human babies.
