In January, U.S. Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) introduced H.R. 3803, the D.C. Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. It has already garnered 130 co-sponsors, 10 of whom are Texans. In February, U. S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the same bill in the Senate (S. 2103).
Pro-Life and pro-choice physicians alike recognize that unborn children can feel pain at twenty weeks of gestation. H.R. 3803 and S. 2103 would ban abortion at and past this point, thereby protecting the tiny human from the excruciating pain of dismemberment. The bills only apply to abortions committed in the District of Columbia, over which the federal government has jurisdiction. Passage could save many, many lives: our nation’s capital holds one of the highest abortion rates in America.
