Yesterday, the Biden Administration took aim at Texas’ latest Pro-Life law, the Texas Heartbeat Act, calling the measure “backward-looking” and “the most restrictive, recent assault on women’s fundamental rights under Roe v. Wade.”
In a press briefing this Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki condemned the Texas Heartbeat Act in the strongest possible language. “This is the most restrictive measure yet in the nation,” Psaki said of the Texas Heartbeat Act.
The Texas Heartbeat Act, signed into law by Governor Abbott this Wednesday, prohibits all abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detectable. This can be as early as six weeks’ gestation using methods according to the standard medical practice.
Passage of the Texas Heartbeat Act has been a major Pro-Life priority for Texas Right to Life during the ongoing Texas 87th Legislative Session. After the Texas Heartbeat Act takes effect on September 1, the measure is sure to save thousands of lives.
Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki continued to malign the Texas Heartbeat Act saying, “Certainly the president supports and believes we should codify Roe v. Wade, and that is his view. Regardless of these backward-looking steps that are being taken in states.”
While Jen Psaki denounces the Texas Heartbeat Act as an attack on women she fails to note the Right to Life of preborn women, violated by abortion.
Psaki also overlooks the incredible, life-affirming Alternatives to Abortion Program (A2A) which Texas funded at $100 million this legislative session.
A2A funds a vast network of pregnancy resource centers, adoption agencies, and maternity homes across the state. Through these resources Texas offers women and families free care and assistance, empowering women to choose Life.
Biden and the abortion industry assert that Texas is attacking women’s rights when nothing could be further from the truth.
Since day one, the Biden Administration has taken the most radical and extreme anti-Life policy positions possible.
The administration called for the repeal of Hyde Amendment restrictions on taxpayer funding of abortions, proposed a rule to restore Title X funding to Planned Parenthood, nominated radical California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to head the Health and Human Services Department, and now takes aim at the Texas Heartbeat Act.
Biden asserts that the Texas Heartbeat Act is “backward-looking.” What is truly backward is Biden’s anti-scientific, outright denial of the humanity of preborn children and his actions to deny preborn children their fundamental Right to Life.
Texas cannot back down. The Biden Administration will continue to threaten and name-call Texas’ life-saving policies. But now is the time for courage and action.
With time quickly running out in the Texas legislative session we must build on the momentum of the Texas Heartbeat Act and double down on our Pro-Life efforts.
Texas lawmakers must use the time left to pass more life-saving bills such as the Texas Abolition Strategy (SB 1647), which lays out a permanent legal route to end all abortions.
Despite Biden’s condemnation, Texas’ actions will save countless lives.
