Earlier this month, Congress successfully passed a reconciliation bill, H.R. 3762 which would divest Planned Parenthood of about $400M in taxpayer funding for one year. The bill, Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015, would also repeal large portions of the Affordable Care Act, halting taxpayer subsidy of insurance plans that use public funds to pay for elective abortions.
Both the Republican-dominated House and Senate passed HR 3762 by utilizing a legislative process that requires only a simple majority, rather than a veto-resistant two-thirds majority. Then, as expected, anti-Life President Barack Obama promptly vetoed the Act. However, committed Republicans are bringing their demands back to the fore with a determined plan to achieve the two-thirds majority in Congress needed to override Obama’s veto.
This veto-override vote will occur on Tuesday, and your action is needed. National Right to Life has asked all Pro-Life Americans to take three minutes to call their representative in the U.S. House and ask him or her to stand for Life, and vote in favor of the override. National Right to Life has provided a page to easily locate your representative’s phone number, and provides suggested short talking points to use when the legislator’s staffer answers the phone.
