Pro-Life Works: Texas Politicians Support Life April 22, 2010 Texas Politicians Support Life Emily Carney Development Associate Texas Governor Rick Perry and Texas Representative Randy Weber spoke with fervor and enthusiasm at a recent crisis pregnancy event in Houston, expressing their passion and dedication to the Pro-Life movement. According to Perry and Weber, all Life is sacred, and government needs to stand up to protect the unborn. Governor Rick Perry’s speech emanates from his history of defending the unborn. During his ten years as governor of Texas, Perry signed a parental consent law, the Women’s Right to Know Act, and an adoption incentive program. Perry also opposes tax pay dollars being used for embryonic stem cell research and is currently working to prevent Texas taxpayer dollars from being used for abortions. Perry spoke at the crisis pregnancy center event about how he is sickened by the anti-Life agenda of the Obama administration and how he is going to do everything in his power as governor to limit the effects. Texas Representative Randy Weber echoed Perry’s Pro-Life convictions. Although Weber remarked that others have told him not to discuss his past, Weber disclosed to the crowd that over thirty years ago, he convinced his then girlfriend to have an abortion. This decision came one month before Roe v. Wade was decided. Weber gracefully acknowledged that he will never be able to take back that action, but he believes has been forgiven by God and that his unborn child is looking down on him from Heaven. Now, Weber will do all that it is in his power to defend innocent unborn children. Governor Perry and Representative Weber re-iterated to the audience the importance of crisis pregnancy centers in the Pro-Life movement. Efforts such as providing free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds help save lives. Studies consistently show that over seventy percent of women who view an ultrasound child chose Life. Perry and Weber drove home the power of the people on the ground to counsel these women and really make a difference. At the Texas Rally for Life in January, Perry remarked: “We must continue our efforts to defend Life, which include reaching out to our elected leaders and expressing our concerns, and using our votes to support leaders who share our commitment to protecting the unborn.”
