Pro-Life Works: Primary Election Day Results! March 4, 2010 Primary Election Day Results! Texas Right to Life thanks every member and supporter that voted on Tuesday. With your help, endorsed candidates won or made the runoff in the vast majority of races across the state. In the primary’s headline race, Governor Rick Perry successfully won without a runoff despite hard fought campaigns by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina. While Texas Right to Life did not agree with Hutchison or Medina on some of the Life issues, we can all agree that Bill White poses a much larger threat to the unborn, elderly, and the disabled in Texas. White has been endorsed several times by Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider and the builder of the new abortion facility in Houston that will dwarf any other abortion facility in this hemisphere. White also appointed the chairperson of the national Planned Parenthood organization to direct Houston’s health department. Governor Perry will need every Pro-Life voter’s support in November. For Supreme Court Place 3, Texas Right to Life certified a number of candidates as Pro-Life. We are pleased and proud that Rick Green has made the runoff election and have endorsed Green to be the next Supreme Court Justice. Texas Right to Life candidates for U.S. Congress were 13 for 14 in advancing to the next race. Bill Flores led the voting in Congressional District 17 and will be competing in the April runoff to take on pro-abortion Chet Edwards in November. Also, Quico Canseco in Congressional District 23 will be competing in the runoff to take on pro-abortion Ciro Rodriguez. The only loss was in Congressional District 12 where pro-abortion Congresswoman Kay Granger held her seat. In the State Senate, Texas Right to Life candidates were two for three. Senators Bob Deuell and Steve Ogden were returned to the State Senate. Both have perfect 100% voting records. Senator Ogden is chair of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and has been a steadfast supporter of the Abortion Alternatives funding in state budget. The State House featured several tough races and Texas Right to Life candidates were 17 for 21 in advancing to the next level. A number of endorsed candidates will compete in the runoff elections: Fred Brown (Brazos County) Holly Turner (Travis County) Larry Gonzales (Williamson County) Van Taylor (Collin County) John Frullo (Lubbock County) Dan Huberty (Harris County) Unfortunately several Pro-Life incumbents lost their re-election bids. Betty Brown from Kaufman and Henderson Counties and Dora Olivo from Fort Bend County have steadfastly supported the Pro-Life movement in the State Legislature and Texas Right to Life wishes them well. The runoff election will occur on April 13. Early voting runs from April 5 to April 9. Please be sure to check back for Texas Right to Life’s runoff voter guide. Thank you once again for voting!
