KFC, Komen, and Planned Parenthood:  A Disturbing Connection

Kentucky Fried Chicken is advertising a new community service project where customers can purchase chicken in a pink bucket and have a portion of the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation.  This sounds like a noble idea on the surface, but upon examination there are several aspects of the Komen foundation that should have Pro-Life activists deeply concerned.  Pro-Lifers need to be made aware of exactly where and to whom their money might go.

Breast cancer takes the lives of countless women every year.  We can all agree it is a horrendous disease that needs to be eradicated from society.  Komen legitimately tries to support research and make strides in finding a cure, but there are several aspects of the organization of which Pro-Life supporters need to be aware.  There is a Komen-Planned Parenthood financial connection.  Two of the most startling statistics provided by LifeNews.com are:

“And in numbers provided to the Associated Press, Susan G. Komen for the Cure

spokeswoman Rebecca Gibson confirmed 19 of the 122 Komen affiliates made grants

totaling $374,253 to Planned Parenthood during the 2005-2006 fiscal year.”

“Figures show Komen affiliates have given Planned Parenthood $3 million between 2003

and 2008 and $805,000 in the 2008 fiscal year.”

Although Komen is not hiding this fact, they are certainly not disclosing it in the advertising for the KFC fundraising campaign.  Most Pro-Lifers may not realize their money might end up in the hands of Planned Parenthood.

Another disturbing aspect of Komen is their decision to deny the abortion-breast cancer link.  The mountain of scientific evidence that supports the connection between abortion and breast cancer is growing.  A researcher from the National Cancer Institute called abortion a “known risk factor” for breast cancer.  Studies completed in China and Turkey confirmed significant increases of breast cancer cases in women who have had abortions.  Pro-Lifers need to know that Komen has chosen to ignore this truth, and sincerely question whether they want their funds to go to an organization that not only ignores the connections between abortion and breast cancer, but also funds Planned Parenthood.

Pro-Lifers deserve to know how Komen will spend their money before purchasing that pink bucket of KFC chicken.  Donating your hard-earned money to a Pro-Life organization or a different breast cancer foundation might save more lives.
