A Call to Action - Supreme Court Appointment

Barry Box

President Obama’s nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stevens will almost surely oppose our Pro-Life cause.  This is among the most important decisions Obama will make because Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life.  Impeachment is the only way they can they be held accountable to the people.  Only in 1804 was a Supreme Court Justice ever impeached, and the Senate did not remove him from the Court.  With stakes this high, we must persuade our Senators to block (filibuster) candidates openly hostile to our Pro-Life cause.

The people ignore such appointments at their own peril because the wisdom of Supreme Court decisions cannot exceed the collective wisdom and character of the Court’s Justices.  Far from infallible, the high court has made disastrous mistakes in the past, such as the infamous 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford decision denying African Americans basic human rights.  Since that time, hundreds of thousands of Americans have died in the struggle to right that terrible wrong.

Activist Justices also horrifically erred in 1973 with Roe v. Wade that declared “open season” on the most innocent by asserting abortion on demand is a “right,” though it’s not found anywhere in the Constitution.  (The Texas law they struck down already provided for abortion in cases where the mother’s life was threatened.)  “Living constitution” activists created new rights out of thin air while denying free speech outside abortion clinics and destroyed all the rights of the unborn child.

Jesus said the following:

  • James 1:22: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.
  • Matthew 7:24: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
  • Matthew 10:16: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.  Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

We are called to complement our faith with shrewd, ethical, and non-violent deeds to protect unborn human life.  Please call Senators Cornyn at (202) 224 - 2934 and Hutchison at (202) 224 - 5922 immediately.  Politely ask them to insist upon Pro-Life nominees and encourage your friends to do the same.

Can a Supreme Court nominee be filibustered?  Our President said “yes” about nominee Alito.  Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL): “Well, I will be supporting the filibuster because I think Judge Alito, in fact, is somebody who is contrary to core American values, not just liberal values.”  (ABC’s “This Week,” 1/29/06)
