Pro-Life Scores: How did your Texas Senator do?

Texas Right to Life releases the Pro-Life scores for the State Senate for the 82nd Legislative Session

Earning 100% on Texas Right to Life’s scorecard for the 82nd Legislative Session was not difficult.  Legislators were able to author or co-author Texas Right to Life priority legislation or carry our amendments to strengthen bills.  The top three senators were key to the success of the 82nd Session, as was Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston), who carried the landmark Sonogram Bill.

Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury)

Pro-Life Legislators do more than press the green button on the floor.  A true defender of Life is staunch in his stance and willing go the extra mile to guarantee the strongest protections are enacted for the most innocent among us.  A legislator dedicated to preserving Life labors behind the scenes, often challenging very powerful individuals and organizations and ensuring that Pro-Life bills, amendments, or measures are introduced for a vote.

Representative Glenn Hegar (R-Katy)

Three senators tied for top ranking with their perfect Pro-Life score of 150%.  State Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury), State Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy), and Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) either authored or co-authored all of Texas Right to Life’s legislative priorities, earning bonus points for Life.

Senator Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands)

State Senator Dan Patrick carried the landmark Sonogram Law to protect a woman’s right to see the sonogram of her unborn child before finalizing her decision to continue her pregnancy.  Senator Patrick shared Texas Right to Life’s concerns that women are denied full medical information before making the life-changing decision.  Looking through the window to the womb empowers a woman to decide after being given all the relevant information.  Senator Patrick earned extra points, too, racking up 138%.

Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston)

The Pro-Life members of the 82nd Texas Legislature achieved the most Pro-Life legislative session ever.  In addition to the Sonogram Law, Texas Right to Life successfully spearheaded the removal of over $64 million of our Texas tax dollars from the abortion industry, restored the full funding of the alternatives to abortion state program, and closed loopholes in other health care bills during the special session.
