Time for Texas to evict anti-Life Senator Wentworth
Texas Senator Jeff Wentworth (San Antonio) has a solid anti-Life record that is incompatible with Pro-Life values. The time has come for Texas to replace Wentworth with a senator who shares our belief in the value of Life.
For nearly a decade, Wentworth has consistently voted against Life. In the recently adjourned 82nd legislative session, he was the only Republican in the State Senate to vote against the Sonogram Bill. In 2001, he received the nation-wide annual Barry Goldwater Award by the Planned Parenthood-sponsored group Republicans for Choice. In 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009 he earned a perfect score from NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, racking up 100% or higher for voting against the Pro-Life Woman’s Right to Know Act, a measure to keep tax dollars from the abortion industry, and the Sonogram Bill in two separate sessions. In 2005, 2007, and 2009 NARAL praised Wentworth for authoring or co-authoring anti-Life legislation.
Wentworth ranked 22 out of 31 state senators for the recent 82nd Legislative Session, which was the most successful for the Pro-Life cause in Texas in recent years. Senator Wentworth has never achieved, or sought to achieve, a legislative voting score higher than zero percent from Texas Right to Life.
Wentworth does not attempt to hide from this expansive anti-Life record. For years, Wentworth has been open about his pro-abortion views and agenda. Although being Pro-Life is about more than being a Republican or a Democrat, Wentworth’s Republican affiliation is duplicitous, as the 2010 Texas GOP Party Platform states:
“All innocent human life must be respected and safeguarded from fertilization to natural death; therefore, the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”
Texas Right to Life PAC has already announced an early endorsement for Dr. Donna Campbell, Senator Wentworth’s challenger, for the 2012 March Republican Primary in Senate District 25. Dr. Campbell has an extensive medical background and experience that has only deepened her passion for the protecting all innocent human life.
