Youth Defence Fights to Keep Ireland Abortion-Free
Today, Ireland is the only major country in Western Europe to remain abortion-free. England, Spain, France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden all allow abortion-on-demand. Youth Defense, an Ireland based Pro-Life group, vows to keep abortions in Ireland illegal. However, the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA), a subsidiary of Planned Parenthood, has other plans.
The IFPA has been promoting The Safe and Legal (in Ireland) Abortion Rights Campaign. The group alleges “women feel angry and frustrated that they have to travel to Britain and other countries to secure these [abortion] services.” 6,000 Irish women, according to the group, “are forced to travel Britain to have an abortion each year.” The Safe and Legal (in Ireland) Abortion Rights Campaign wishes abortion were more convenient for women.
Youth Defence, meanwhile, hopes that abortion will remain inconvenient for Irish women. From November 5th-7th, Youth Defence hosted Viva La Vida, a Pro-Life youth conference. Speakers from the United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, and Holland came to tell the Irish people to keep fighting to keep abortion out of Ireland.
Speakers included:
-
Dr. Colin McGucklin, a prominent scientist in the field of adult stem cell research
-
Jill Stanek, an American Pro-Life blogger and former nurse
-
Sr. Roseann Reddy, foundress of the Scottish Sisters of the Gospel of Life
-
Bryan Kemper, a youth activist
-
Irene van der Wende, National Coordinator for “Silent No More” in Holland
-
Andy Pollard, a demographics expert
-
Eric Scheidler, the Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League, and
-
Monica McGhee, a young Scottish mother who chose Life.
