Couple from MTV’s "Teen Mom" Chooses Adoption

by Emily CarneyThursday, September 30, 2010

One couple from MTV’s hit show Teen Mom stands out from the rest.  Eighteen-year-old parents Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra were the only couple on the show to choose adoption.  Although the September 20th headline of People magazine read, “We Miss Our Baby,” Lowell and Baltierra also went on in the story to state that they never once regretted their decision, and they were happy to plan their little girl, Carly’s, future through adoption.

Like many other teenagers on the show, getting pregnant was a surprise for sixteen year old high school students Catelynn and Tyler.  The couple dated for a number of years but still did not expect to become parents at such a young age.  The pair wanted to stay together but did not feel that they were ready to become parents.  Thus, Catelynn and Tyler chose adoption.  Nonetheless, the couple is engaged and does plan to get married someday.

Catelynn and Tyler have a semi-open adoption agreement with adoptive parents Brandon and Teresa who had problems conceiving.  Brandon and Teresa live states away, but Tyler and Catelynn still get to see Carly once a year as part of the adoption agreement.  When asked how they felt about adoptive parents Brandon and Teresa, Tyler replied in the People magazine story that he believes, “They’re just so ready.”

Although planning their child’s future through adoption was not easy for Tyler and Catelynn, they still know it was the right decision for them.  Catelynn commented in an interview with Matt Laeuer on The Today Show that, in any decision “you have to think about your child before yourself.”  Tyler shared that he believes in his heart that, “Carly’s gonna come to mine and Catelynn’s doorstep one day and say, ‘Thank you, thank you for everything you did.’ ”
